The O scale Freight House

The O scale Freight House is based on a prototype in Franklin, MA. It was built shortly after the turn of the last century, and served the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad as its LCL freight house until 1947. It was leased to an offline shipper who used the building until 2007. The building is beyond repair, and is scheduled to be razed in the next few months.

Our version of this structure is substantially scaled down from the prototype. The real building measures over 200 feet in length, or well over four feet in O scale. This model captures the feel of the prototype, and is typical of freight houses across the United States and Canada with boxcar loading and unloading on one side, an truck access on the opposite side. We’ve also included a truck ramp on one end.

On our diorama, we’ve depicted a narrow gauge setting, but the dock height will accommodate O scale standard gauge as well.

Our kit includes laser cut wood clapboard walls and stripwood by Northeastern Scale Lumber, Grandt Line windows and doors, a Hydrocal foundation and loading dock, and resin and metal detail castings.
Please note that not all details pictured are included.
