The Hoosac Valley Lines is the finest example of rural New England railroading in the 1950’s. Dick Elwell began construction on his model railroad masterpiece in 1960. Almost 50 years later, Dick is still building, revising, and updating the layout. It is often said that a model railroad is never truly finished. Dick’s continued efforts bear testimony to that. Watch as we follow a through freight from the staging yard at Essex Junction, NY to Berkshire Junction. Then, follow Hoosac Valley, New Haven, Adirondack Northern and Greylock Terminal peddler freights as they service the many industries on the railroad. This special edition, two-DVD set covers the expanded Hoosac Valley with never-before seen footage, and includes an in-depth interview with Dick Elwell, and many of his close friends. Dick Elwell has been a model railroader all his life, and has helped his many friends design and build their model railroads. The Hoosac Valley Lines has been featured on the cover of several model railroad magazines including Model Railroader, Railroad Model Craftsman, and twice in Kalmbach’s Great Model Railroads. Dick and his wife Sandy live in the Berkshire Mountains of western Massachusetts. They have three grown children. |
